What the CraftX Beer Subscription Was

Every month, CraftX shipped a box of 12 craft beers built around two rotating breweries. Before each shipment, members picked between two styles from each brewery — six cans per brewery minimum, mixed and matched however they liked. Boxes went out on the first Monday of the month, and CraftX said it kept only about a week between canning and delivery so the beer arrived fresh. Everything shipped in cans rather than bottles, on the idea that beer travels and tastes better that way.

Because it was alcohol, deliveries needed an adult signature — worth remembering if you’re used to packages just getting left on the porch. Members generally had it shipped to an office or planned to be home for the delivery window.

CraftX never had a coupon field at checkout. Instead, the first 500 subscribers who signed up through a referral link got $10 off each month, which worked out to $30 off across the 3-month subscription CraftX sold at the time. That’s a common structure for subscription-box startups — the “code” is really just a tracked link, which is also why the discount stops working the moment the company behind it goes offline.
