What Happened to Cleanly?
Cleanly launched as a Y Combinator-backed, on-demand laundry and dry-cleaning pickup service in New York, which is exactly what our original review covered. In 2020, Cleanly merged with NextCleaners — one of the largest dry cleaners in NYC — to vertically integrate delivery with actual cleaning operations. The combined company took a new name: ByNext.
ByNext is genuinely still around. Its app is actively maintained (updated within the last month as of this writing) and, notably, still published under an App Store developer account named “Cleanly” — so this isn’t a case of the brand quietly dying, it’s the same team continuing under a new name. ByNext operates on-demand wash-and-fold and dry cleaning pickup/delivery in New York, New Jersey, the DC Metro area, and Los Angeles today.
What we couldn’t find is a consumer promo code for ByNext. The only referral program on ByNext’s own site is aimed at businesses (“know a business? earn up to $20,000”), not individual customers. Worth a correction here: this page’s metadata used to reference a “$30 off with code HAPPIER10,” but that never matched Lucy’s own code-card images for this post — both of the original promo graphics clearly show $10 off with code CLEANER10, and the body copy itself only ever had a broken placeholder (a literal shortcode that never rendered a real code). We’re going with what the images actually show: CLEANER10 for $10 off. Either way, this was a code for the original standalone Cleanly app, and we have no evidence it carries over to ByNext’s current systems.
