What Happened to The Love Bed?
We want to be upfront about this before you read the rest of our review: The Love Bed, the mattress we fell for below, isn’t something you can buy today under that name. Nest renamed it to “Love and Sleep” at one point, and more recently the name shows up in Nest’s own product photography as the “Quail Responsive Foam Mattress.” As of our last check, though, even Quail doesn’t have an active product page on nestbedding.com — it’s mentioned, but not sold as a standalone listing we could find. Names have clearly shifted around inside Nest’s product line over the years.
What hasn’t changed is the company. Nest Bedding is still very much in business, still making organic, non-toxic mattresses, and still shipping them in a box with an easy return window. Their current core lineup is all bird-named: the Sparrow Signature Hybrid (from $1,318), Owl Natural Latex Hybrid (from $1,604), Starling Signature Contour (from $1,640), Raven Flippable Hybrid (from $644), and the Puffin memory foam kids’ mattress (from $536). My Nest Bedding Review: The Love Bed
While I’ve heard great things about all of Nest’s organic mattresses, my particular, personal review is about The Love Bed, which I had for about 9 months before writing this.
To start with, I’m quite a fussy sleeper. I would never be able to fall asleep on a couch, and I groan and complain if something is too hard, too soft, too bouncy — I’m basically the princess from The Princess and the Pea.
We went through a few mattresses to end up here. We had a fancy posturepedic that cost about $2,000, and it was alright for a couple of years, but never quite perfect. So we decided to switch it up.
We’re into having things shipped to us, so we thought it’d be fun to try one of those in-the-box mattresses everyone was raving about. We started with a Leesa mattress, hoping we’d find bliss on the first try — they had an easy return policy too, so it was worth a shot. What We Thought
My boyfriend claimed he loved the Leesa. It was super firm, and that was basically all he needed as a back sleeper — though I think he also just didn’t want to deal with shopping for another mattress. I liked it for about 4 days, and then I started being in pain. I’m a side sleeper, and the firmness was hurting my back, my hips, my shoulder. We were busy, so we didn’t deal with it for months — but eventually they came and took it away and we got a full refund.
We’d heard about The Love Bed online, and were lucky that there was a physical Nest Bedding store near us to check it out in person.
The Love Bed came in three firmness versions — soft, medium, and hard. I felt very much like Goldilocks trying them all out in the store. My vote was for the soft one — it literally felt like lying on a cloud, or some cotton candy. Amaaaazing.
My boyfriend can’t sleep on something too soft, though, and he liked the hard version, so we settled on medium as a compromise. It arrived in a box that fit in our car (with some difficulty — would’ve been easier in an SUV).
We opened it up at home, let it fully decompress for about 8 hours, and went to bed. Oh my goodness. It was genuinely the most comfortable bed I’d slept in — like a premium hotel room, sleeping on a cotton ball of happiness.
I was nervous about my boyfriend’s back, but he woke up in love with it too. By the time I wrote this, it had been 9 months, and every night we got in and sighed in contentedness. It also absorbs movement really well — if one partner gets out of bed, the other side barely shakes. Amazing.
PS. It’s called The Love Bed because it was also supposed to be great for sex — while the whole bed doesn’t bounce and rock as one, it gives good localized bounce while still offering firm footing for active movement (unlike full memory foam, where movement gets so absorbed you can’t really, ahem, thrust).
So What Should You Buy Today?
Since The Love Bed itself isn’t a current listing, the closest match in spirit is probably the Owl Natural Latex Hybrid (organic latex, similar comfort-forward positioning) or the Sparrow Signature Hybrid if you want something a bit firmer with coil support. Either way, Nest Bedding’s current lineup keeps the same organic, non-toxic, ships-in-a-box, easy-return approach that won us over with The Love Bed in the first place.
