What Was Sesame?

Sesame was built by Sincerely, the company behind mobile postcards and greeting cards, as its next step into the gifting business. Sincerely itself is still around today, still making custom photo postcard and greeting card apps — it just never brought Sesame back. The idea behind Sesame was to make sending a real, physical gift as easy as sending a text — browse a themed box (cocktail kits, baby gifts, self-care items and more), pick a contact, and Sesame handled the rest. It didn’t last long: Sesame shut down in May 2016, not long after it launched.

When Sesame closed, we redirected readers to Giftagram instead, with a $10-off code. Giftagram itself is still around — but it’s changed shape. When we checked, giftagram.com now positions itself as a corporate gifting platform, for sending gifts to clients and employees, rather than the friend-to-friend consumer app it was built as originally. We can’t confirm the old individual $10 discount mechanic still applies under that new business model, so treat that code as unconfirmed rather than guaranteed. If you’re just looking to send a friend a nice gift box today rather than set up corporate gifting, a general retailer gift card or a direct order from a gift-box retailer of your choice is going to be the most reliable path — we don’t currently have a verified, consumer-focused digital gifting app to recommend in Sesame’s old category.
