What Was WaiveCar?

WaiveCar’s idea was genuinely clever: a fleet of electric cars, free to rent for the first two hours ($6/hour after that), paid for by geo-targeted advertising wrapped on the outside of each car. It launched with about twenty cars around Venice Beach and Santa Monica and planned to grow from there. No promo code was ever required — that was the whole point.

As of this writing, we couldn’t find WaiveCar operating anywhere. Its App Store listing is gone (a direct fetch returns “not found”), and waivecar.com’s domain is still registered but doesn’t serve a working site on either http or https — the kind of setup you see when infrastructure has been abandoned but nobody’s gotten around to letting the domain lapse. Between the two, we’re treating WaiveCar as discontinued.

If you want to rent a car, Turo is the modern equivalent — a peer-to-peer marketplace where you rent from local car owners instead of a traditional rental counter, with way more selection than WaiveCar ever had. If you just need a ride rather than a rental, Lyft is still running and still has an active sign-up bonus.
