It grew fast, then Deliveroo bought Maple’s team and kitchen technology in 2017 and shut the consumer app down entirely — a fairly common outcome for the wave of “meal on demand” startups from that era. We checked maple.com directly for this update, and the domain is now home to a completely different company (a scheduling/payroll platform for long-term care facilities) with no connection to the old meal service.

For the closest thing to Maple’s “order dinner, it shows up hot” experience today, DoorDash is the most direct replacement — it delivers from thousands of local restaurants rather than a single in-house kitchen, but the fixed-price, no-driving-required convenience is the same idea. If what you actually liked about Maple was chef-designed meals without the guesswork, Home Chef is a meal-kit alternative worth a look, though it’s cook-at-home rather than delivered-ready.

We’re keeping our original review below for the record, since it’s a nice snapshot of what made Maple worth writing about in the first place. The app and kitchen and delivery crew were all run by the same company, which is how Maple kept prices fixed and simple. Each meal listed its ingredients and allergens up front, ordering was a one-tap “I’ll have this,” and popular meals sold out fast because Maple only made what it could deliver same-day. Seafood dishes — Atlantic hake, shrimp — were a particular strength, by our account at the time.
