What Was Whittl?

Whittl was an all-in-one appointment-booking app: instead of separate apps for haircuts, blowouts, massages, manicures, and spa visits, Whittl let you search and book any of them in one place, in cities including New York, Chicago, Boston, and Washington DC. It raised $3.3 million in funding in July 2015 and looked like it was set to expand — but the company shut down its operations in September 2016, only a few months after this post originally ran.

When Whittl closed in 2016, we updated this post to recommend StyleBee instead, with a $25-credit code. Checking back in now, StyleBee’s site (stylebee.com) times out with a server error, and we can’t find a StyleBee app in the App Store anymore — both signs that StyleBee itself has since gone under. So rather than repeat a nine-year-old recommendation that no longer holds up, we’ve replaced it below with services we’ve independently verified as currently active.
